Counselling is generally a process that people enter when they would like something to be different in their lives. This may be a need to process a life event or experience that feels unresolved, or it could be troubling thoughts or feelings that are affecting your life adversely.
The therapeutic relationship that forms between the counsellor and client is different from other relationships in that a counsellor will listen carefully so that they can understand you and your world as you see and experience it.
You will not be judged for what you say or be told what to do, which means difficult feelings and emotions can be explored in an environment that offers safety, confidentiality, and acceptance. This can help develop new ways of thinking which influences how you feel, and can help you gain new perspectives, build confidence, and improve relationships and happiness.
Counselling can be a short or longer term process depending on what you would like to work on. You may wish to work in a solution focused way on one particular issue, or an in depth look at several aspects of your life may be helpful to achieve the outcome you would like.
